The U.S. Department of Justice is concerned an ongoing audit of Maricopa County’s ballots from the 2020 election could breach federal law. The DOJ made the statement in a letter to State Senate President Karen.
Arizona’s Democratic Party and the state Senate recently reached a compromise allowing Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to assign three observers to the inspection. The audit has drawn contention as participants continue a hand count of 2.1 million ballots at the state fairgrounds in Phoenix. An Arizona Republic reporter says he was forced to leave the audit after taking a photograph of former state Representative Anthony Kern counting ballots. Kern was spotted at the January 6th insurrection. A spokesperson for the Senate said the reporter was escorted for other reasons concerning ballot privacy.
