Phoenix, AZ – The Rasmussen Reports poll found that more than half of likely
Democratic voters didn't know enough about any of the four
contenders who hope to unseat incumbent John McCain to have an
impression of thir abilities. And when asked who they intend to
support, 46 percent of those questioned said they have no idea.
Of those who have made a choice, former Tucson councilman Rodney
Glassman is the favorite -- but with the backing of 12 percent of
those surveyed. Former state legislator and state health chief
Cathy Eden followed at 11 percent, with labor organizer Randy
Parraz at 9 percent and former New Times reporter John Dougherty
one point back from that. And 14 percent of Democrats want
someone else entirely to be the party's standard bearer. All that
shows Democrats have a lot of work to do if they hope to pick up
the Senate seat. Last month Rasmussen reported that McCain would
trounce Glassman by a 57-28 percent margin. Things don't get much
better for Democrats if former Congressman J.D. Hayworth manages
to defeat McCain in the GOP primary: Rasmussen said Glassman
still would pick up just 33 percent of the vote, against 49
percent for Hayworth. For Arizona Public Radio this is Howard
Fischer.
