New Mexico’s largest electric utility has submitted to state regulators its plan for shutting down a coal-fired power plant in the Four Corners region.

The filing with the state’s Public Regulation Commission will determine the future of the San Juan Generating Station.  The move comes as a new state law dictates more aggressive renewable energy requirements while allowing Public Service Company of New Mexico to recoup from customers some of the expenses.
