Citizens Water Advocacy Group - Presentation regarding the Upper Verde River
Citizens Water Advocacy Group - Presentation regarding the Upper Verde River
Upper Verde River: Value, Threats, Protection
On Saturday, November 8, Gary Beverly, CWAG Executive Committee member and Chair of the Sierra Club Yavapai Group, will describe the many current efforts by national, state, and local conservation groups to protect the upper Verde, with a focus on the current status of the Upper Verde Wild and Scenic River campaign.
Gary has worked for 20 years to protect the Verde River, a jewel in the Southwest. Little known and underappreciated, the upper Verde contains some of Arizona's best surviving riparian habitats that support many species protected by the Endangered Species Act. Yet, groundwater pumping and climate change threaten the river's existence.
This will be a hybrid meeting: in person and on Zoom. To attend in-person, join us at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 882 Sunset Ave, Prescott AZ. The presentation will begin at 10 a.m. There will be coffee and snacks at 9:45 a.m. for informal conversations before the program. Individuals wishing to view the presentation via Zoom can register at the “Next Event” link at www.cwagaz.org. Questions/comments? Email us at info@cwagaz.org or call 928-445-4218.
