Discovering Biodiversity: BioBlitz Event at Walnut Creek

Discovering Biodiversity: BioBlitz Event at Walnut Creek

Join the Natural History Institute in our Bioblitz Event at Walnut Creek, where scientists, nature enthusiasts, and curious minds come together to explore and document the incredible biodiversity of an understudied environment! It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about local wildlife, contribute to important scientific research, and enjoy the great outdoors with fellow nature lovers.

What's a BioBlitz?
An event where community members conduct biological surveys in a designated area to document biodiversity.

What to Expect:
Guided Nature Walks: Join expert naturalists as they lead you through various habitats and share their knowledge.
Species Identification: Use our provided tools and the iNaturalist App to identify and document plants, insects, birds, and more.
Interactive Volunteering: Participate in hands-on activities and learn about the importance of biodiversity.

Why You Should Join Us:
Make a Difference: Your observations help scientists track and protect local flora and fauna.
Connect with Nature: Deepen your understanding of the natural world and its wonders.
Meet Like-Minded People: Network with other nature enthusiasts and experts.
Enjoy the Outdoors: Spend a weekend immersed in the beauty of our local environment.

Itinerary:
Participants will arrive at Walnut Creek Center for Education and Research at 1:00 pm to set up camp and sign up for sessions. Throughout the afternoon and evening, guided surveys on various taxonomic groups, from plants to reptiles to insects and more, will be conducted. Participants will camp overnight at the Walnut Creek Center grounds. On Sunday, there will be early morning birding sessions and other guided nature walks until noon.

Location:
The event will occur at the Walnut Creek Center for Education and Research, located one hour northwest of Prescott. This remote area is rich in biological diversity, with two perennial streams and close proximity to two wilderness areas. Our BioBlitz Event will be the first of its kind in this area! Participants are encouraged to camp overnight and join the Sunday guided sessions. There is a flush toilet outhouse located near the camping area. No transportation is provided, but we can help arrange carpooling for those interested. Participants will bring their own camping gear, water, and food.
