Maria Elisa Rosales Juega, PhD " Too Cool for School"
She drives a 1998 Ford Explorer Sport with five on the floor. The brand new teal colored SUV she purchased in Cedar Falls Iowa, was waiting was waiting at Babbitt Ford , Flagstaff, AZ the day she arrived. She had dumped her teaching position in the modern language department of the University of Iowa, for Northern Arizona University, the mountains and the pine trees. It was an easy decision.
She is from Spain, did post graduate work in Madrid and achieved her PhD from Syracuse University, New York. While improving her English, excelling academically and writing a doctoral thesis she was consumed with a passion for travel. That first flight from Madrid to New York City lit a flame in her that driving her Explorer from Flagstaff roundtrip to Costa Rica, riding her Honda NX400 motorcycle 65,000 Kilometers through eight South American countries, riding her BMW G650-GS motorcycle from Spain to Turkey and return and just last month riding her KLR-650 motorcycle 5,000 miles from Flagstaff to Clearwater, Florida and back to her Rancho Los Rosales in Doney Park, Flagstaff, AZ has yet to extinguish.
After a year long sabbatical in Buenos Aires, Argentina researching the contemporary tango scene and completing a stint at University of Heredia, Costa Rica, she realized she wanted to go beyond words and go beyond travel. She retired from Northern Arizona University, returned to Buenos Aires and studied acting and jewelry making. She soon acted in a short film that won first prize in the Rio Film Festival, created the Overland Jewelry line consisting of earthy organic and recycled matter.
Elisa has become an award winning artist. Her line of jewelry goes beyond words, and speaks softly to all who are ecologically conscience. Elisa is currently exhibiting her Jewelry at the Art Gallery, downtown Flagstaff and the Art Gallery of Williams, AZ.
