The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Northern Arizona premiere of “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” showing April 24-29 at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres.

“Mr. Nobody Against Putin” won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and was the winner of the Audience Choice Award for Best International Documentary at the recent Sedona International Film Festival.

Pasha Talankin is an unlikely hero — a beloved Russian primary school teacher, known as a mentor and prankster who offers students a safe haven in his office. After Russia invades Ukraine, Pasha’s role in the school changes dramatically as he is reluctantly drawn into Putin’s propaganda machine.

Forced to promote state-sanctioned messages and horrified by the transformation of his school and community, he struggles with guilt and a sense of powerlessness, leading him to become an international whistleblower.

As the school’s videographer, Pasha documents intimate and revealing footage of Putin’s regime, capturing the rise of militarized children’s groups, repressive laws, fervent nationalism, and the recruitment of graduating students to fight in the war. When he learns his own life may be at risk, Pasha is forced to plan a dangerous escape from Russia.

Directed by David Borenstein and Pasha Talankin, this uniquely collaborative film is as captivating and joyful as it is eye-opening and sobering. “Mr. Nobody Against Putin” showcases rare footage that reveals the profound impact of Putin’s regime on the lives of everyday Russians, particularly its children.

“Mr. Nobody Against Putin” will be shown at the Alice Gill-Sheldon and Mary D. Fisher Theatres April 24-29. Showtimes will be Friday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m.; Sunday and Tuesday, April 26 and 28 at 7:00 p.m.; Monday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m.; and Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m.

December 7th marks opening night of Milan’s legendary opera season at La Scala. Since 1951, this is the evening when everything stops and the entire city moves to the rhythm of an event known as, “La Prima”. Opera enthusiasts from around the world flock to attend this special performance and on December 7th, 2024, Verdi's masterpiece, “La Forza del Destino”, inaugurates the season.

In a world full of conflict and political tensions, stage director Leo Muscato, costume designer Silvia Aymonino, and set designer Federica Parolini envision the arena of “La Forza del Destino” as set in a global war zone, transforming Verdi’s opera into a contemporary performance that resonates strongly with the present.

From the first rehearsals with the singers, musicians, chorists and dancers, to the moment of La Scala’s fateful curtain rise on opening night, we are there with the artists, the ushers, in the heart of the audience, and with the divas and maestros of the theater, all led by the brilliant and charismatic Maestro Chailly.

“The Force of Destiny” is an electric experience from behind the scenes, the final few months of preparation, the pressure, the stress, and the hive of talent and passion that defines La Scala. This film, structured like a work of fiction without voice over, tells the exclusive story of the highest artistic ambition in an organic and carnal way: The world’s most legendary opera house, and all the talent in front and behind the scenes that bring it to life.

FORM & FACE: Abstract Bodies and Masked Identities

This dynamic exhibition features the work of acclaimed artists Zarco Guerrero and Kevin Titzer, exploring the intersections of abstraction, the human form, and identity. Through sculptural masks, figurative assemblage, and evocative materials, Form and Face challenges viewers to consider how identity is constructed, concealed, and revealed. Join us for the opening reception on April 24, 2026, and experience this bold exploration of body and persona.

The duplex-style Riordan Mansion remains one of the finest examples of American Arts and Crafts-
style architecture open to the public today. Designed by the architect of the impressive El Tovar Hotel
at the Grand Canyon, Charles Whittlesey, the homes were built in 1904 with indoor plumbing, hot
and cold running water, central heat, and electric lights, reflecting the most modern technology and
design of the time.
Seen by guided tour only, the interiors of the Riordan family homes look essentially as they did in 1904.
The homes showcase original family belongings including fine examples of early Stickley furniture.

Volunteer opportunities available include Front Desk, Interpretive Tours, Grounds and Maintenance services.

The Flagstaff Folk Festival will take place June 13-14. We are seeking music-loving, smile-wearing, laugh-inducing, easy-going, community-minded folk to fill a variety of essential festival positions in these areas: Musician Hospitality, Sound & Stage, Safety, Set-Up, Workshops, Guest Hospitality, Media, Merch Team, Vendor Hospitality and Tear Down. All shifts are 4 hours or less. You will get a free festival t-shirt and free admission for the remainder of the day when you volunteer. “Mr. Burton” was the winner of the Directors’ Choice Award for Best Feature Film Drama at the recent Sedona International Film Festival.

"Mr. Burton" tells the true story of the relationship between Port Talbot schoolmaster Philip Burton and a wild young schoolboy called Richard Jenkins, the son of a wayward drunk.

Richard dreamed of becoming an actor, but his ambitions were in danger of being derailed by a combination of family trouble, the pressure of war, and his own lack of discipline.

Mr. Burton recognized the raw talent in his pupil, becoming his tutor, strict taskmaster and eventually his adoptive father. And Richard Jenkins is transformed into Richard Burton — Wales's greatest star.
