Northern Arizona University will move all classes online for at least two weeks following spring break amid heightened concerns about the transmission of coronavirus.
The announcement came Thursday via email from NAU President Rita Cheng to university students and staff. Classes will transition to the online-only format beginning Mon, March 23. NAU officials say after the two-week period they’ll reevaluate whether to hold in-person classes for the remainder of the semester.
Cheng is also encouraging students to stay close to NAU during spring break and says residence halls and dining facilities will remain open.
According to NAU, campus operations will continue but all non-essential university-sponsored travel and domestic travel outside Arizona has been suspended. Officials are also urging employees against personal travel to other states and to check restrictions or quarantine measures recommended or required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In addition, NAU has canceled faculty-led study abroad programs through May and is requesting that all students and faculty who are currently abroad in such programs to return to the U.S.
