Arizona National Guard Aids Navajo Nation Amid Pandemic

en.wikipedia.org

As of Monday, Arizona had recorded a total of 1,157 known cases of new Coronavirus and a death toll of 20, according to the State Department of Health Services. Governor Doug Ducey has issued a statewide stay-at-home order to try to limit the spread of COVID-19 through the end of April 2020.

Among other things, it prohibits residents from leaving their homes except for food, medicine and other essentials. People can still shop at grocery stories and pick up pharmaceuticals at drug stores statewide.

Meanwhile, more than 25 Citizen-Soldiers responded to a request from the Navajo Nation Monday to establish a medical care facility and to augment healthcare planning needs.

The effort is a pivot from the initial response of the Arizona National Guard’s stand up of troops in response to the COVID19 threat and expands the organization’s use of capabilities into the medical realm.

In addition, a team of 19 Citizen-Soldiers logisticians is helping to set-up a Federal Medical Station in Chinle.   The station will house approximately 50 beds to support anticipated hospital overflow on the Navajo Nation.
