Hopi leaders have passed a resolution limiting traffic into the Village of Kykotsmovi to only public safety providers, health professionals and other essential services.
The measure passed by the Village Board of Directors also appoints a village pandemic crisis coordinator, establishes a nightly curfew for local residents and allows officials to set up road closures if necessary to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The pandemic poses “a public health threat to the Hopi/Tewa communities and the health risks posed by its inevitable spreads to the community members” reads the proclamation.
In addition, the resolution provides $20,000 in funding to mitigate the effects of coronavirus and to assist with carrying out the Kykotsmovi Emergency Response Plan, which will be in effect for the duration of the crisis.
Hopi leaders have already declared a public health emergency and put a stay-at-home order in place.
According to the Hopi Health Care Center three people have tested positive for coronavirus on the reservation.
