Play Us A Tune: The Social Distance Album Release Party

Justin Young

During this time of separation, there is one thing that can unite nearly all humans on the planet…music. Flagstaff-based band Meyer Pax was all set to hold their first album release party when COVID-19 hit. So now, instead of playing in front of a crowd, the band will livestream a performance from inside an empty Flagstaff Brewing Company to honor the original release date of their album, currently postponed by the pandemic. In the latest installment of our series Play Us a Tune, the band Meyer Pax and friends plays a song from their someday-to-be-released EP Just Put That Anywhere.

Justin Young: My name is Justin Young. I play guitar and I sing in a band called Meyer Pax. Alec Tippet is also here. He plays drums. And then we also have Seth Terrell here from Tiny Bird, just sitting in with us and playing some electric guitar.

Before the shutdown really happened, we were at the tail end of mixing our EP that was supposed to be released on April 17th. We were supposed to have a release party there at Flag Brew. Unfortunately, that is now being…well, it’s still happening, but it’s going to be a livestream from Flag Brew with no one there, just the band. It’s kind of a bummer, but you know, do with what you can.

The song that we’re playing is called Stalagmite. It’s a song off the EP that will be coming out sometime in the next couple of months, I guess. It’s kind of about feeling distant from someone. It’s basically a love song.

That was the Flagstaff-based band Meyer Pax. A livestream performance is set tomorrow inside Flagstaff Brewing Company. The band has also set up a Go Fund Me page to benefit Northland Family Help Center. You can find details on Meyer Pax’s Facebook and Instragram accounts.
