The Flagstaff City Council voted unanimously yesterday to pass the city’s 2021 budget with police funding intact. The Arizona Daily Sun reports, the council received hundreds of messages from Flagstaff residents both for and against defunding the police.
The scrutiny comes after local and nationwide protests of police killings of black Americans. Councilmembers directed staff to reallocate existing funds toward officer training and education. Flagstaff mayor Coral Evans called for a community conversation before making changes to city policy.
