Governor Doug Ducey yesterday urged Arizonans to stay home as much as they can and wear masks in public as the state faces skyrocketing numbers of coronavirus cases, deaths and hospitalizations. However, he stopped short of mandating another stay-at-home order.
In a livestream public address, the Governor told people to take the pandemic seriously and stop gathering in large groups and going maskless around others. He appealed specifically to young people. Those 20-44 years of age are testing positive at higher rates than any other age group.
Arizona has one of the highest surges of COVID-19 in the nation. More than 3,000 new cases have been reported daily on four days this week. Health care facilities are close to capacity for COVID patients in many areas and ventilator use is up statewide.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today said for every 1 confirmed case of COVID-19 in the U.S., there are 10 unconfirmed case.
