FDA Authorizes University Of Arizona COVID-19 Antibody Test

WebMD

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the use of an antibody test developed by researchers at the University of Arizona.

The test has been administered across the state since April through an FDA Emergency Use Authorization while the review process was underway. But the agency's final approval expands the free antibody testing to anyone in Arizona 18 years and older.

"This antibody test developed by our own researchers is one of the most accurate tests in the country, with an estimated false-positive rate of less than 1 in 5,000," said Dr. Michael Dake, senior vice president for UArizona Health Sciences, in a press release.

Antibody tests could determine who has been exposed to COVID-19 and can potentially reveal who may have an immune response to the virus.
