Law enforcement across the country are bracing for possible protests ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration Wednesday. Locally, no specific threats have been reported, but officials remain on guard. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says it hasn’t received information about planned protests or threats of violence. They haven’t changed routine deputy patrols but say they can quickly respond if incidents occur.

Similarly, the Flagstaff and Prescott police departments say they aren’t aware of unrest coinciding with the inauguration, but are monitoring the situation.

The FBI last week said it wasn’t aware of planned demonstrations at the Arizona State Capitol or other government buildings in the Phoenix area following the pro-Trump riot at the U.S. Capitol two weeks ago.

Tens of thousands of National Guard troops and other law enforcement personnel have been dispatched to Washington, DC to provide security for Joe Biden’s swearing in as the 46th president of the United States.

Ryan Heinsius joined the KNAU newsroom as executive producer in 2013 and was named news director and managing editor in 2024.
