Flagstaff Awarded $5.5M Grant To Increase Access To Transit

mountainline.az.gov

The Arizona Department of Transportation is providing $5.5 million to Flagstaff’s transit system for infrastructure improvements to improve access to public transportation.

The so-called first-mile/last mile funds awarded to the Mountain Line will pay for sidewalks and other projects intended to make transit bus stops reachable by pedestrians and cyclists, the Arizona Daily Sun reported. The bus system applied for the grant in partnership with the city, which agreed to contribute $1.4 million, or about 20% of the project’s total cost of $6.9 million. The city’s plans include adding sidewalks and increasing spaces designated for bike lanes.
