Governor Doug Ducey today signed an executive order banning the state and local governments from requiring so-called vaccine passports.
Requiring people to provide proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccine in order to enter some businesses has been the subject of national debate in recent months. The Republican governor says residents shouldn’t be required to be vaccinated and such passports are an encroachment on private medical information.
The order also bans state agencies and companies that contract with the state from making COVID-19 vaccine documentation a requirement for such things as entering businesses and receive services.
Private businesses, health care providers, childcare facilities, schools and universities are exempt from the ban.
The Biden-Harris administration says it’s not pursuing a national vaccine passport.
