University of Arizona to lead statewide study on long-term effect of COVID-19

pharmaceutical-journal.com

Researchers at the University of Arizona will lead a statewide effort to study the long-term effects of COVID-19.

The National Institutes of Health will provide more than $9 million in funding for the first year of the study by U of A Health Sciences. It’s one of more than 30 research centers nationwide participating in an initiative by NIH seeking to understand, treat and prevent post-acute long COVID.

U of A’s research team will recruit individuals who have experienced or the acute phase of COVID-19, including older adults from vulnerable, underserved populations and representing diverse races and ethnicities.

They will undergo clinical evaluations, answer questionnaires and take exams, as well as undergo diagnostic procedures.

The data collected will become part of a large data base of tens of thousands of individuals nationwide.
