The federal government is sending medical personnel to Arizona to help with its COVID-19 surge.
The White House announced Tuesday that Arizona is among a handful of states expected to receive additional resources this week.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is deploying ambulances to take patients from full hospitals to facilities with open beds.
A news release says 20 paramedics are heading to Arizona. Arizona’s seven-day rolling average of daily new cases decreased over the past two weeks, but 223 more deaths were reported Tuesday.
The daily death toll hasn’t been that high since February. The state’s largest hospital systems say they are under immense strain from COVID-19 cases and patients who delayed care for other illnesses.
