Arizona Budget Update

Flagstaff, AZ – After an all-nighter, the Arizona Senate has postponed voting on a Republican budget-balancing plan. G-O-P leaders say that could set the stage to put an initiative on the November third ballot that would allow voters to decide on a penny sales tax hike. The House approved a ten-bill package this morning at about four o'clock. The Senate was expected to follow with its own vote. But, Senate President Bob Burns said support for the budget was several votes short. Minority Democrats solidly oppose the budget package that was negotiated without their input. And, some Republicans have balked at Governor Jan Brewer's proposal for the one cent sales tax increase.
