Why wars send oil and gas prices swinging

Oil and gas prices surged after attacks on Iran disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a route that carries about a fifth of the world’s oil. Leaders are now floating ideas to calm markets, from releasing emergency reserves to easing sanctions. But none of those offer a quick fix.
