Arizona Lawmakers To End Session On Friday Amid Virus Crisis

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann says lawmakers will be returning to the state capitol Friday to sine die effectively wrapping up this year’s regular legislative session. There's no word yet on whether state House leaders agreed to the plan.

In a written news brief, Fann said the decision was made after conversations and communications with members of the Arizona Senate and House.  She said there is a strong consensus among lawmakers that this is the right thing to do during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Fann said legislators are setting aside any legislative business that does not directly support the mission to protect the health of Arizonans and the state’s economy. She said lawmakers will be creating task force committees to address the various issues that have emerged as a result of the pandemic. They will identify the solutions necessary to accelerate the economic recovery while working to ensure that the constitutional liberties of all of Arizona's citizens are preserved.

Fann said “Friday's sine die is the end of one chapter, but our work will continue throughout the year and beyond to make Arizona stronger."
