Firefighters Battle Two Lightning-Caused Wildfires Near Heber

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests

A Type 2 Incident Management team will take command of two lightning-caused wildfires near Heber on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.

The Wyrick Fire is more than 7,000 acres and the West Chev Fire is nearly 300, and officials say they’ve observed extreme fire behavior in recert days. No containment has yet been reported.

Evacuation “Go” notices have been issued for Antelope Valley Ranch, Despain Ranch and Heber-Overgaard north of highways 260 and 277. Other communities remain in “Set” pre-evacuation status.

Smoke is expected to impact the area and could settle in low-lying areas overnight.

In addition, firefighters are also trying to contain another lightning-caused fire south of Alpine. The Bear Fire is 7,300 acres with no containment.
