Coconino County health officials have resumed operations at a drive-up COVID-19 specimen collection site. They briefly closed the facility Wednesday over personal protection equipment concerns of staff. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.
Coconino County Health and Human Services officials say the collection site in east Flagstaff was closed for about two hours as staff encountered complications with protective masks. The issue was resolved and the site has reopened. A county spokesperson says they don’t anticipate further issues.
Coconino County is currently operating two drive-up specimen collection sites in Flagstaff–at the Coconino Community College campus on Fourth Street and another at Fort Tuthill. An order from a healthcare provider or county health official is required to receive a nasal swab that’s then sent to state or private testing facilities for next-day turnaround. Officials are asking the public not to go to the collection sites without an order.
Drive-up service is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There is currently one confirmed case of coronavirus in Coconino County. There are 109 tests pending in the county and there have been 35 negative tests. Statewide there are now 27 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
