Arizona's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stayed at 4.5% in January, the same as in December 2019.

The Arizona Commerce Authority also reported Thursday that nonfarm jobs declined by 47,300 in January.

But authority officials said the job losses are typical for January as demand for seasonal workers declined in industries including retail trade, wholesale trade, employment services and others.

Fewer job losses were recorded in January 2020 compared to the historical 10-year (2010-2019) average loss of 51,000 jobs in January.

The government sector recorded a loss of 3,400 jobs in January while the private sector lost 43,900 jobs.
