Flagstaff officials say the city may have to pay Arizona more than $840,000 over the next two years to cover the cost of having a higher minimum wage than the state.

The Arizona Daily Sun reported that the the city would have to pay $202,700 this fiscal year and $640,889 next fiscal year based on the agencies that have reported estimates so far.

City officials say the final decision on how much the city must pay will be up to the Legislature, despite agency cost estimates.

The state is set to deliver a bill with the finalized amount by July.
