FUSD Confirms COVID-19 Case Among Staff At Sinagua Middle School

FUSD

Flagstaff Unified School District officials say a staff member recently tested positive for COVID-19. District classes are currently being held online, but some teachers are working from FUSD buildings. KNAU’s Ryan Heinsius reports.

FUSD says the staff member is an employee at Sinagua Middle School. Contact tracing was conducted after officials learned of the positive test and those who were possibly exposed have been notified and are in quarantine. An FUSD spokesperson didn’t specify how many people came into contact with the infected staff member or whether they’re employees or students who were at school as part of Gov. Doug Ducey’s mandatory on-site learning option.

Officials say Sinagua has undergone an enhanced cleaning process and the school is allowing flexibility for in-person working.

FUSD confirms other cases of COVID-19 but officials didn’t elaborate on exactly how many. According to FUSD’s COVID-19 mitigation plan, one case at a school doesn’t constitute an outbreak.

FUSD is conducting virtual learning through at least Oct. 9 when officials will reassess conditions based on the local COVID-19 infection rate.
