Jones Pleads Guilty In NAU Campus Shooting

A former Northern Arizona University student has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a fellow student on campus.

Multiple sources including the Arizona Republic and Phoenix TV Station CBS 5 report Steven Jones also pleaded guilty to three charges of aggravated assault

The plea Thursday spares him from a second trial, which had been scheduled for later this month.
Jones has long acknowledged firing the shots that killed 20-year-old NAU student Colin Brough and injured three others.

He claims he acted in self defense. Prosecutors have painted Jones as the aggressor.

The plea deal calls for a five- to 10-year sentence instead of up to 25 years that he faced if jurors convicted him.
