Navajo Nation Reports 75 Communities With 'Uncontrolled' COVID-19 Spread

Navajo Nation Council

Navajo Nation health officials say there’s now uncontrolled spread of COVID-19 in 75 communities on the reservation.

A public health emergency order remains in place on the Navajo Nation through Monday enforcing stay-at-home-lockdowns and weekend curfews along with other measures to slow the spread of the virus.

“With more and more reports of the COVID-19 variant being reported in various regions, we must continue to take all precautions. The variant is reported to be much more contagious, making it easier for the virus to infect from person to person," said Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez in a press release.

The tribe Monday reported 65 new known cases and three more deaths. President Nez is also urging residents to continue to physically distance, wear masks in public and abide by other safety protocols. Those on the reservation who want to receive a COVID vaccine can register online with the Navajo Department of Health.
