Coconino County officials say about 1,600 newly available appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations quickly filled up last Friday at the Fort Tuthill site.

Frontline medical workers and long-term care staff and residents were already eligible. But health officials had leftover doses from the first round of immunizations and decided to expanded administration of the vaccine to teachers, childcare workers, law enforcement and others rather than store the doses.

"While I know it is frustrating for those who want a vaccine but were unable to book an appointment, there will be additional opportunities to receive a vaccination soon when more supplies become available,” said Interim Director of Health and Human Services Kim Musselman in a press release.

Officials recommend eligible people to frequently check the county websitefor available vaccination appointments. The state Department of Health Services is booking vaccination times through its website for qualified groups.
