Pump Failure Forces Water Restrictions On North Rim Of Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park officials have implemented water-use restrictions on the North Rim because of a pump failure in the Transcanyon Pipeline.

Park staff and contractors are working to repair the break at Roaring Springs and the estimated time for repair isn’t known. Under the restrictions visitors and residents are asked to use low-water cleaning techniques and reduce toilet flushing while reducing shower times. Watering lawns and plants and car and bus washing are also prohibited indefinitely. Visitor facilities on the North Rim are open but the campground is closed. Drinking water is available at locations in the canyon’s interior but officials urge hikers to be able to purify their own water.
