The 28,000 mile route paddled by Verlen Kruger and Steve Landick from 1980 to 1983. The trip required them to paddle upriver through the Grand Canyon and its 165 rapids.

This month is the 25 year anniversary of one of the most epic journeys ever attempted. Two men crisscrossed the country in canoes, covering 28 thousand miles, including paddling UPRIVER through the Grand Canyon with its 165 rapids. Commentator Scott Thybony has their remarkable tale.

Scott Thybony has traveled throughout North America on assignments for major magazines, including Smithsonian, Outside, and Men’s Journal. An article for National Geographic magazine was translated into a dozen languages, and his book, Canyon Country, sold hundreds of thousands of copies. He once herded sheep for a Navajo family, having a hogan to call home and all the frybread he could eat. His commentaries are heard regularly on Arizona Public Radio.
