Event Description

On June 12, as part of the Flagstaff Festival of Science Lunar Legacy Lecture Series, cultural astronomer Bryan Bates will share his research about how the Puebloan people of the Four Corners region documented the lunar cycles and incorporated that knowledge into their “ways of knowing." Following a historical timeline, Bryan will explore lunar cultural astronomy beginning in Chaco Canyon, then to Chimney Rock followed by Mesa Verde. The interpretation will be largely based on Hopi traditional knowledge as reflected through archaeological and anthropological research.
