Giant Grandfather Juniper Hike

Giant Grandfather Juniper Hike
Join the Prescott Native Plant Society this Father’s Day weekend to visit what is sometimes referred to as the “Grandfather Juniper.” In this field excursion, we will hike to the Giant Alligator Juniper, which serves as a Granite Mountain Hotshot crew memorial. Along the way, we'll explore the fire scar with intermingling piñon-juniper and chaparral biotic communities. This trail is exposed, so wear sun protection and bring plenty of water and snacks. Be prepared to walk up to 5 miles.
Itinerary: Participants will meet at the trailhead at 7:30 AM. We will hike about 5 miles out and back. This trail is rated moderate, with a gain of 541 feet. We expect to return to our cars by 11:30 AM. Please bring plenty of water and snacks.
Driving directions from Prescott: We will not be driving on rough dirt roads— head west on Iron Springs Rd to Contreras Rd. Turn right onto Contreras Rd. Follow Contreas Rd for 0.8 miles to a fork in the road and parking area.
