Flagstaff Piano Festival presents dazzling concert pianist SOFYA GULYAK in a solo recital featuring works by Bach/Busoni, Franck, Chopin, and Liszt. In 2009, Sofya Gulyak was awarded 1st
Prize and the Princess Mary Gold Medal at the 16th Leeds International Piano Competition, the first woman to achieve this distinction. Since then, she has appeared internationally to great critical and public acclaim. Other prestigious prizes she has won include first prizes at the Kapell, Maj Lind, Tivoli, Isangyun, and San Marino international piano competitions, second prize (first not awarded) at Busoni, and third prize at the Long–Thibaud–Crespin Competition. Sofya Gulyak is Associate Professor of Piano at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and was previously a piano professor at the Royal College of Music in London.
During her residency at Flagstaff Piano Festival, Sofya Gulyak will also teach a public piano masterclass on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 10:00AM-12:00PM in Kitt Recital Hall. Admission to the masterclass is free.
