Firefighters Make Progress Containing Brush Fire Near Cave Creek

Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management

Firefighters north of Phoenix have made progress containing a brush fire threatening the town Cave Creek.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management says the East Desert Fire is half contained and remains at about 1,500 acres. Crews were able to secure fire lines and protect structures Monday. Evacuation orders, however, remain in place for many residents. The fire started Sunday and was fueled by heavy winds though dry grass and brush. It was human caused and officials say it started on private property and then moved to mostly state land south of the Tonto National Forest. The fire is under investigation.
