Navajo Nation Council Allocates $1 Million To Residential Electricity Project

The Navajo Nation Council has allocated $1 million to provide electricity to 300 homes on the reservation.

The Light Up Navajo II project will receive funds through a U.S. Department of Energy grant. It’s the second phase of the project that began last year and provided electricity to more than 230 families. The tribe partnered with the American Public Power Association and brought in electric line workers from several states to connect homes to the electrical grid.

According to the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority More than a quarter of homes on the Navajo Nation don’t have electricity.
