Football, Soccer, Cross-County Seasons At NAU Postponed Amid COVID-19 Concerns

NAU Athletics

Officials with the Big Sky Conference have decided to postpone all sports until next spring amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Northern Arizona University is a member of the conference and as a result will delay its football season along with cross-country, soccer and volleyball. Fall competition for non-championship season sports like golf and tennis will also be postponed.

“I have great empathy for our coaches and student-athletes who have prepared much of their lives to be able to compete and coach in Division I athletics,” said NAU’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mike Marlow in a press release. “The combined efforts of our student-athletes, coaches and staff to prepare during great adversity for their recently canceled seasons is a strong point of pride for all associated, in anyway, with NAU Athletics.”

Marlow says the decision was made for the well being of student athletes and he believes NAU’s program will emerge from the pandemic stronger.

The Big Sky Conference also includes Weber State, Montana, Idaho State and Eastern Washington universities.
