Navajo Tribal Member Dies During US Army Training At Ft. Hood

Navajo Nation Council

A U.S. Army private and Navajo Nation tribal member has died after collapsing during a training exercise at Fort Hood in Texas.

Carlton Chee was from Pine Hill, N.M., and joined the Army in February as a tank crewman assigned to the Second Battalion.

Chee’s death is one of nearly 40 to occur to Fort Hood this year. The Army says it’ll launch an investigation into management there and previous fatalities. Navajo Nation Council Speaker Seth Damon says he’s deeply disturbed by the deaths and is calling on national leaders to protect the lives of Navajo warriors and those serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
