Navajo Nation health officials yesterday reported 16 new known COVID-19 infections and 14 more deaths.
Health facilities on the reservation and in border towns are conducting drive-thru vaccine events or administering doses by appointment. The Navajo-area Indian Health Service has vaccinated more than 135,000 people and almost 49,000 have been fully inoculated.
A daily curfew and mask mandate remains in place on the reservation. Navajo President Jonathan Nez is urging residents to remain home and avoid travel off the reservation.
Nearly 1,200 people on the Navajo Nation have died from COVID since the beginning of the pandemic and almost 30,000 have tested positive.
