Navajo Nation health officials reported six new known COVID-19 infections and no recent deaths Sunday.
Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez says the tribe is overcoming the pandemic one day at a time, but more people still must be vaccinated before the tribe reaches widespread immunity.
“Please remain diligent and remain supportive of one another. Mental health is another key concern for many people, so please do your best to support one another and keep praying ... We have to keep pushing back on COVID-19 and the variants by getting vaccinated, wearing masks, social distancing, washing your hands often, avoiding large in-person gatherings, and limiting travel,” he said in a press release.
More than half the reservation’s population has been fully inoculated. Nearly 1,300 people on the Navajo Nation have died and more than 30,000 have been infected with COVID since the pandemic began.
