Governor Doug Ducey has issued an emergency declaration in response to the flash flooding in Flagstaff.
It makes up to $200,000 available for response efforts. It comes after several area roads below the 2019 Museum Fire burn scar flowed with monsoon runoff after inches of rain fell in short periods of time on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Flagstaff Mayor Paul Deasy and Coconino County Board of Supervisors Chair Matt Ryan yesterday declared states of emergency to expand emergency funds and request assistance from the state.
Meanwhile, Coconino County flood officials say a dozen homes and garages have sustained interior flooding in the Museum Flood Area along with 15 homes in the Upper East Flagstaff area.
Crews are continuing to clear channels and inlets in Flagstaff’s storm drain system as more flooding is possible in the coming days.
Pre-filled sandbags are available for residents of flood-prone areas in Flagstaff at Coconino High School and at Coconino County Health and Human Services. In addition, an emergency operations center has been activated along with a call center at (928) 679-8525.
