The Kaibab National Forest will extend the personal-use firewood collection season on part of its Tusayan Ranger District.
Permit holders from all three of the forest’s ranger districts will be allowed to harvest wood through February 29 in designated units of two areas:
- The Watts Free-Use Permit Area, located in the Upper Basin north of Forest Road 307.
- The Ten-X Paid-Use Permit Area is located within Ten-X Campground about two miles south of the Town of Tusayan just off State Route 64.
While harvesting will be allowed to continue in those areas into the new year, permit sales will end December 31.
Permits remain available at the Williams and Tusayan district offices.
Wood harvesting elsewhere in the Kaibab ended November 30.
