NAU Student Athletes Test Positive For COVID-19

Northern Arizona University has confirmed that some student athletes have tested positive for coronavirus.

NAU officials didn’t specify the exact number of infections but said it was, “a very small number.” They say they aren’t aware of staff or faculty members who were in contact with those who tested positive. The university says it has screening protocols in place for all student athletes whether they’re symptomatic or not.

According to NAU, athletes who test positive are required to isolate based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a July newsletter, NAU Vice President for Intercollegiate Althletics Mike Marlow wrote that about 150 students returned to campus in June for voluntary workouts.

The University of Arizona announced Friday that three football players tested positive for COVID-19. U of A President Robert Robbins said in April he thought the football season was “unlikely” amid the pandemic.
