Navajo Nation Tribal Member Appointed To Arizona Legislature

Navajo Nation Council

The Apache County Board of Supervisors has appointed a Navajo tribal member to replace former State Representative Arlando Teller.

Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren will represent the state’s 7th Legislative District, which includes a large portion of the Navajo Nation and all of the Hopi reservation. She lives in Red Mesa, graduated from Stanford University and recently passed the Arizona Bar Association exam. Blackwater-Nygren will be sworn in later this week.

Teller stepped down from the Legislature last months after accepting a job with the U.S. Department of Transportation under the Biden-Harris administration.
