Navajo Mine

Last month, the feds greenlit the expansion of the Navajo Mine in New Mexico. The expansion is the largest amount of coal approved for mining on Native American land in the U.S.

Community members who live near the mine met in Window Rock to argue against prolonging its life by as much as 110 years. Opponents say doing so would ignore a nationwide move away from fossil fuels.
