This event, known as parkrun, takes place every Saturday morning - same time, same place, same 5K distance. Run, walk, jog, walk the dog, push the grandchildren in a stroller, or volunteer - this event is free, for everyone, forever. It is an opportunity to get outside into the fresh air with a bunch of like-minded folks. It’s is worldwide. Every Saturday about 350,000 people all around the world are doing their own local parkrun. Visit our website and complete a one-time registration so your parkrun efforts can be recorded. Join us for the inaugural Scottsdale Book Festival, a one-day, citywide celebration of books, literacy, and storytelling. Experience the joy of reading as we bring together literary enthusiasts from every corner of the community. With more than 200 authors, publishers, and exhibitors, plus food vendors and live entertainment, this free festival invites families, educators, and book lovers of all ages to gather at the Scottsdale Civic Center for a full day of imagination, discovery, and connection. Explore the festival grounds to meet authors, uncover new voices, and enjoy stories spanning every genre — from fiction and nonfiction to YA, children’s books, poetry, and more.
Babysitting is a big responsibility! Learn essential skills to care for younger children, handle emergencies, and build trust with families in this Safe Sitter® Babysitting and Safety Skills class. Training topics include: CPR, choking rescue, and First Aid. Child care skills, Life and business skills, Online safety For youth, ages 11-18. Space is limited and registration is required. The duplex-style Riordan Mansion remains one of the finest examples of American Arts and Crafts-style architecture open to the public today. Designed by the architect of the impressive El Tovar Hotelat the Grand Canyon, Charles Whittlesey, the homes were built in 1904 with indoor plumbing, hotand cold running water, central heat, and electric lights, reflecting the most modern technology anddesign of the time.Seen by guided tour only, the interiors of the Riordan family homes look essentially as they did in 1904.The homes showcase original family belongings including fine examples of early Stickley furniture.
Volunteer opportunities available include Front Desk, Interpretive Tours, Grounds and Maintenance services.

Discover the ease and freedom of off-loom weaving! In this two-hour workshop, instructor Jessica Holton will guide you through a shared pattern while educating about the history and mental health benefits of weaving. All materials will be provided!
After a brief overview of the history of weaving both on and off-loom, Jessica will guide all attendees through the same pattern to get everyone acquainted with this new skill. Each participant will learn how to begin their pattern on a 5-inch by 5-inch piece of wood (without pegs or grooves), using a tapestry needle for the shuttle. Along the way, participants will be introduced to the mental health benefits of weaving.
Jessica Holton is a clinical social worker who began her fiber arts journey in September 2022, when she took a drop-spindle fiber spinning class. She began weaving on a tapestry loom in October 2022, taught herself to knit in December 2022, and attended her first (virtual) off-loom weaving workshop in February 2023. She won Best of Show for an off-loom piece at the 2023 Flagstaff Wool and Fiber Festival, and another piece was displayed at the Coconino Center for the Arts as part of their Form and Fiber: Handmade Textile Art exhibit in 2025.

Learning more about the native plants in the Sedona area is a great way to enhance any hike. Our volunteer guides explain how plant life is interconnected with indigenous cultures, pioneer settlers, people in our contemporary times and wildlife.
This program is included with park entrance fees. Space is limited in the program, so reservations are encouraged and can be made at the beginning of each month for that month's program, (928) 282-6907.
