Jim Hinckley’s America is the culmination of a lifelong passion for road trips and the rich, colorful American story. Founded in 1990 with the encouragement of his wife Judy, Jim Hinckley turned his natural talent for storytelling into a mission: inspiring people to discover America by the open road. What began with feature articles for a wide range of publications—and a monthly column, The Independent Thinker, for Cars & Parts magazine—quickly became a platform for celebrating the unsung heroes of American history, from automotive innovators like Ralph Teetor to the everyday people who shaped the nation’s journey.
Over time, that passion expanded into books covering subjects as diverse as the Checker Cab Manufacturing Company, Route 66, Southwestern adventures, and the evolution of American car culture. Together, the books and articles formed the foundation of Jim Hinckley’s America, which has since grown into a multifaceted network including a popular website and blog, international presentations, a YouTube channel, an active social media presence, and Coffee With Jim, a weekly podcast designated an official Route 66 Centennial program. Along the way, Jim has shared the road with audiences around the world—from Route 66 festivals in Europe to book signings across the United States—and built lasting friendships along the journey. Jim Hinckley’s America is a shared adventure: smile-inducing, thought-provoking, and endlessly inspiring, all in service of sharing America’s story and showing people where to go.
We’re getting ready for our 5th annual Bike Festival and we’re so excited to bring this back to the community!
Admission is free and ALL are welcome.
This year is a little different as we handed the entire event over to our incredible team of student interns, who are pulling the whole thing together in just TWO WEEKS. Their commitment to our mission and the dedication they have shown all semester makes us so proud, and it really shows in this event. Come support them, along with our athletes, staff, and volunteers, and spend a beautiful afternoon with us.
Join us from 1–4 PM at the Yavapai Ramada at Fort Tuthill for music, hands-on bike experiences, and a chance to connect with the biking community here in Northern Arizona. At 2:00 PM, we’ll also host a community ride—so bring your bike and get ready for a beautiful ride with neighbors and friends.
Come check out our adaptive bikes, a powerful example of how technology and engineering come together to create access and opportunity for community members with disabilities.
As the students work hard to make this event a success, they are also getting food and coffee vendors lined up to keep everyone fueled throughout the afternoon.
Come hang out with us, bring a friend, and be part of it!

Celebrating 25 Years as the World's First International Dark Sky City! Join us for an evening under Flagstaff's Dark Skies, featuring Stargazing and Local Flavor!
After last year’s incredible debut, we’re excited to bring Starlight in the Square back to Downtown Flagstaff for an even more meaningful evening under the stars! This year marks the City of Flagstaff’s 25th anniversary, our Silver Jubilee, of becoming the world’s first-ever International Dark Sky City. For 25 years, our community has led the way in protecting urban night skies, and this event is a beautiful way to experience exactly why that matters.
Join us in historic Heritage Square as downtown lights dim and this year Aspen Avenue will be closed to create a peaceful, walkable stargazing space. Explore a warm, amber-lit gathering area featuring curated heavy hors d’oeuvres, specialty dark-sky-themed drinks, and local flavors from downtown businesses and community partners.
New this year, sip under the stars at our beer garden on Aspen Avenue, serving exclusive brews from Dark Sky Brewing Company and Mother Road Beer. As the sky deepens into twilight, take part in laser-guided stargazing tours and view celestial objects through telescopes placed throughout the space!
Presented in partnership between the Flagstaff Dark Skies Coalition and Downtown Flagstaff Foundation.

EVER PRESENT: Guillermo Galindo & José Luis Sotero presents two Mexican artists whose work reflects upon their experiences of migration. Guillermo Galindo (San Francisco, CA), an acclaimed Mexican-born artist and U.S. citizen, composer, and performer, shares his newest project Sonic Biogenesis, an installation commenting on genetics, mobility, and the environment. José Luis Sotero (Nogales, Sonora, MX), a self-taught Mexican painter, presents his recent paintings El lado oscuro de la migracion (the dark side of migration) using pictorial surrealism to depict the stories of people who seek refuge from violence and poverty in hope of a better life. While both artists have long worked with themes of migration, their work reflects distinctly different perspectives and expressions. This exhibition is mindful of the important role of immigration at the center of the American experience, and current conversations on immigration taking place in the U.S., with increased awareness in border states such as Arizona.
A night of dinner and drinks, games, raffles, auctions, and of course, the lively bee competition itself! Join us at High Country Conference Center for an evening with in-house catering, drinks, and plenty of fun as we cheer on our spellers. All proceeds will benefit the Literacy Center, a local nonprofit that has the mission of providing literacy services to adults, teens, children, and families. Dedicated volunteers help people from all over the world learn English and also help native English speakers improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
