This event, known as parkrun, takes place every Saturday morning - same time, same place, same 5K distance. Run, walk, jog, walk the dog, push the grandchildren in a stroller, or volunteer - this event is free, for everyone, forever. It is an opportunity to get outside into the fresh air with a bunch of like-minded folks. It’s is worldwide. Every Saturday about 350,000 people all around the world are doing their own local parkrun. Visit our website and complete a one-time registration so your parkrun efforts can be recorded. Bird enthusiasts join a naturalist for a guided walk appropriate for beginner and advanced birders. Most year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field behind the Visitor Center. The Audubon Society has designated Red Rock State Park as part of the Lower Oak Creek Important Birding Area (IBA) because of the many species that live or visit here. Please meet up with the leader on the viewing deck above the visitor center.

Join the Fix-It Clinic on Saturday, November 7th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Joe C. Montoya Community and Senior Center near Thorpe Park (245 N. Thorpe Rd.) to get your household item repaired and returned to life and kept of the landfill!

Our amazing volunteers can assist with repairs on almost anything, including electronics, jewelry, clothing, bicycles, and more, all for free! While appointments are recommended, they are not required.

Every morning, a volunteer naturalist leads a guided nature walk informing visitors about the different life zones of Red Rock State Park. The subjects discussed on this walk may include geology, wildlife, history, archeology, and plant life. The naturalists welcome questions during the walk, enhancing the learning experience. The program is included with park entrance fees.

Learning more about the native plants and trees in the local area is a great way to enhance any hike. Our volunteer guides explain how plant life is interconnected with indigenous cultures, pioneer settlers, and people in our contemporary times. This interpretive experience lasts between 1½-2 hours and takes place along easy trails near the Visitor Center. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear for walking on dirt trails.

Experience the dark skies of Red Rock State Park! Learn about the stars, planets, and astrophenomena! Start with a presentation at the picnic ramada, followed by sky viewing through telescopes provided by local astronomy club, AstroVerde. This program will be complemented by moonless conditions, which are ideal for deep-sky viewing. Constellations like Orion, Taurus, and Perseus rise clearer as autumn progresses, making it an optimal time to spot star clusters and nebulae. November 7 also marks the official end of the Orionid meteor shower baseline activity period. Online reservations are required to attend the event. Thank you to our event partners Astronomers of the Verde Valley and Keep Sedona Beautiful. A kids craft will be available for youth ages 12 and under.
