Bird enthusiasts join a naturalist for a guided walk appropriate for beginner and advanced birders. Most year-round birds are found in the riparian area next to Oak Creek or along the field behind the Visitor Center. The Audubon Society has designated Red Rock State Park as part of the Lower Oak Creek Important Birding Area (IBA) because of the many species that live or visit here. Please meet up with the leader on the viewing deck above the visitor center.

Every morning, a volunteer naturalist leads a guided nature walk informing visitors about the different life zones of Red Rock State Park. The subjects discussed on this walk may include geology, wildlife, history, archeology, and plant life. The naturalists welcome questions during the walk, enhancing the learning experience. The program is included with park entrance fees.

Learning more about the native plants and trees in the local area is a great way to enhance any hike. Our volunteer guides explain how plant life is interconnected with indigenous cultures, pioneer settlers, and people in our contemporary times. This interpretive experience lasts between 1½-2 hours and takes place along easy trails near the Visitor Center. Please bring water and wear suitable footwear for walking on dirt trails.

The Phoenix Youth Hoop Dancers are a collective of Native youth representing multiple tribal nations. Rooted in culture, community, and ancestral teachings, these young artists share the beauty and meaning of the Indigenous hoop dance—a story in motion that reflects balance, healing, and connection.

“In Indigenous tradition, each hoop symbolizes the circle of life: our relationship with one another, the land, the animals, and the Creator. Through movement, formations, and storytelling, the dancers express themes of resilience, identity, cultural pride, and harmony. Every performance is more than art, it is an offering of gratitude, a celebration of heritage, and a reminder of strength carried by our youth as they honor their roots and inspire their communities.”

This performance is free with museum admission.
